Ulverstone  Tasmania

Ulverstone is a popular tourist town at the mouth of the Leven River. The surrounding area is agricultural, with dairy, poultry and vegetables the main produce. Beaches to the east and west of the town offer safe swimming, while at Leith there is a fairy penguin colony which can be viewed at dusk. There is good beach, river and estuary fishing in the Ulverstone area.

There are some magnificent buildings, including private homes and boarding houses from the town’s heyday as a tourist destination. The local history museum houses shop facades from various businesses.

The Shrine of Remembrance is a clock tower dedicated to returned servicemen from all sections of the armed forces. Riverside Anzac Park is a pleasant spot beside the Leven River, with a playground and picnic areas.

Gunns Plains Caves are limestone caves with an underground river and glowworms. Regular tours are available. Leven Canyon has bushwalks, barbeque facilities and amazing views down into the canyon.
